Coldplay at UCLA

THE FIXER: Chris Martin unexpectedly paid tribute to Amy Winehouse last night near the end of Coldplay’s show at UCLA’s L.A. Tennis Center, sitting at the piano and singing the chorus of “Rehab” as if it were a Randy Newman character ballad, the mood further deepening when the crowd spontaneously sang along in a murmuring "No, no, no." The band then seamlessly transitioned into “Fix You.” It was the most poignant moment during a performance in which, without fanfare, the group worked in several songs from their completed fifth album, which hits in October on Capitol/EMI. Here’s one of them, “Charlie Brown,” as seen on Jimmy Kimmel Live, which did a remote from the venue. (8/4a)
