Apple trade-in, recycling program

TRADE IN YOUR iPHONE: Apple celebrated its moment of supremacy by extending its reuse and recycling programs to include the iPhone and iPad. If you bring one in, you’ll get a gift card of “fair market value,” good at retail or online stores, in exchange for your trade-in. The company is also offering free recycling of all computers and displays, no matter who manufactured that old piece of crap. As long as the item in question qualifies for reuse, those who dispose of mobile devices, Mac or PCs in an environmentally friendly manner will be rewarded with store credit. If not, Apple says it will recycle the gadget or system at zero cost, and will provide these services regardless of whether or not you’re buying a new Mac. The idea is to encourage increased awareness of the need for environmental responsibility among consumer users. (8/10a)
