Hicks quits

HICKS RESIGNS: IDJ EVP Chris Hicks has unexpectedly resigned. According to an announcement that went out late Thursday night, Hicks will continue with Def Jam as a creative consultant, rendering services that include producing upcoming albums from Justin Bieber. “We are delighted that IDJ artists will continue to benefit from Chris' creative expertise and relationships, and wish him only the very best on his many new projects,” read the UMG statement. Said Hicks: "I want to thank L.A. Reid, Steve Bartels and Barry Weiss for the past and future opportunities to work with the incredible IDJ roster and staff. I am proud of the successes we have had that I've been able to contribute to, including Justin Bieber and Jennifer Lopez, and look forward to further success with IDJ through this new relationship that allows me to pursue my other creative interests." Hicks, who succeeded Shakir Stewart as the company’s EVP in 2009, also headed Def Jam A&R. (8/12a)
