STATE OF GRACE: Director Jake Scott has a leg up in the upcoming battle of Jeff Buckley biopics. The film, scheduled for a November shoot, has the exclusive rights to Buckley’s music and the Leonard Cohen-penned “Hallelujah,” as well as the blessing of Buckley’s mom, Mary Gilbert, who’s one of the producers. And now it also has a singing leading man in Reeve Carney, who plays the lead in Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, according to Deadline.com. Carney’s biggest challenge will be to duplicate Buckley’s acrobatic vocals in the untitled film. As for other two projects, Greetings From Tim Buckley stars Gossip Girl’s Penn Badgley as a pre-fame Jeff Buckley whose artistic ambitions are fueled by his performance at a memorial concert for his late father. The third film, the Australian production A Pure Drop, it is being mounted by Mad Bastards director Brendan Fletcher. The title comes from the book A Pure Drop: The Life of Jeff Buckley. (8/17a)
