Weekend Movie Box Office

STEEL TOPS BOX OFFICE: Hugh Jackman and the robots topped the weekend box office tally for a second consecutive week, as Real Steel pulled in $16.3m at 3,440 screens for an average of $4.7k (and a two week total of $52m) to top Paramount’s re-tooling of Footloose, which brought in $16.1m in its first week at 3,549 theatres for a per-screen of $4.5k. The rest of the Top 5 was rounded out by Universal’s The Thing remake with $8.7m at 2,996 theatres for a paltry $2.9k average, Sony’s The Ides of March with $7.5m at 2,199 theatres ($3.4k and a total of $22m) and WB’s Dolphin Tale, with $6.3m at 3,286 theaters for an average of $1.9k and a total of $58.6m.
