Alabama Shakes Shake Things Up

SHAKIN’ ALL OVER: The first big buzz band of the new year has arrived. Alabama Shakes, newly signed to Red Light Management and ATO Records by Kevin Morris for Coran Capshaw’s company, wowed a packed house at the Troubadour last night in their L.A. debut with an industry-heavy crowd that included the label's Ed Green, Ambrosia Healey and Phil Costello, BMG Chrysalis' Lionel Conway and ex-Capitol Records honcho Andy Slater, among many others. Lead singer Brittany Howard is a dynamo; think Janis Joplin meets Big Mama Thornton, or as one wag put it, “She’s Delaney and Bonnie.” Here’s a clip of them performing “Hold On” live on KCRW’s Morning Becomes Eclectic.
