The Voice rules Monday night, Smash drops

THE SOUND OF MUSIC LIFTS NBC: The Voice was down about 12% from its premiere last Monday, but it still trounced the competition Monday night, including CBS’ previously dominant sitcom lineup led by How I Met Your Mother. Additionally, Fox’s Alcatraz has dropped drastically the two weeks The Voice has been on. This week’s edition of The Voice attracted 16.1 million viewers, and averaged a 5.9 rating with the coveted 18- to 49-year-old demo. Those totals were down from 17.7 million viewers and a 6.7 rating for the season premiere, but more than two percentage points ahead of any other show that night. By stark contrast, Smash was off 26% from its much-publicized premiere, down to a 2.8 rating in 18-49 viewers and eight million total viewers. That’s still a respectable number, and far above what NBC was scoring at 10 p.m. on Mondays earlier this season, and are more than for any 10 p.m. drama. Smash finished just ahead of Hawaii Five-0 on CBS and well ahead of Castle on ABC. (2/16a)
