Adele flips the bird at Brits

NO WAY TO TREAT A LADY: Adele’s acceptance speech for Best Album at Tuesday night's Brit Awards (see next item) ended abruptly and colorfully. She began her speech by saying, "Nothing makes me prouder than coming home with six Grammys and then coming to the Brits to win Album of the Year. I'm so, so proud to be British and to be flying the British flag, and I'm so proud to be in the room with all of you." At that point, host James Corden cut her off, saying, in obvious discomfort, "I'm so, so sorry, and I can't believe I'm going to do this..." Before he could finish, Adele said, "You're going to cut me off. Can I just say, then, goodbye and I'll see you next time round?" She then flipped the bird and left the stage. Apparently, Damon Albarn’s rambling acceptance speech had put the show behind schedule, and the producers were trying to make up for lost time. "Sorry if I offended anyone, but the people in suits offended me," Adele said after the show, The Mirror of London reported. "I wasn't swearing at the fans, but I didn't get to complete my thank-you speech!" (2/22a)
