Barbra Re-Ups at Columbia

PEOPLE WHO NEED PEOPLE: As I.B. Bad hipped you to last October, Barbra Streisand has re-upped with Columbia Records, the only label that she's known in her career, after spurning an offer from rival UMG. The superstar diva released her first album, The Barbra Streisand Album, in 1963 after being signed by then-label head Goddard Lieberson. Only Tony Bennett has been with the label longer. "I am thrilled to continue that partnership for many years to come,” said Streisand in a statement. Added Columbia COO Steve Barnett: “There are stars and there are superstars, and there’s Barbra Streisand... Columbia Records is proud to play a vital role in her extraordinary career. We’re looking forward to the next chapter in our long and fruitful relationship.” (2/22p)
