Seymour Stein Takes the Cake

LIFE BEGINS AT 70: Legendary Sire Records founder Seymour Stein celebrated his 70th birthday last night at the Beechwood Canyon home of his daughter Mandy, with a guest list that included many of his WB cohorts. Seen working the room were Brett Ratner (and his grandparents!!), Johnny Ramone’s widow Linda, Mo and son Randy Ostin, Lenny Waronker, Steven Baker, Andy Paley, Moby, Rob Goldklang, Joe McEwen, Howie Klein, Richard Gottherer, Freddy and Candy DeMann, Bill Paxton, Jeff Fenster, House’s Lisa Edelstein, Spongebob SquarepantsTom Kenny, Craig Kostich, Bob Merlis and Lynda Keeler. A fine time was had by all. And just to show it wasn’t a retirement party, Stein announced the latest signing to his Sire label, Durham, NC, “original Americana band” Delta Rae. Stein called the group "an important addition to our overall roster. Their music, all original, is a mix of blues, country and gospel with a strong rock and roll influence, not unlike what the English are sending over via Mumford & Sons and others." Look for the group's debut album, Carry the Fire, which comes out June 19. (4/18p)
