EMI Music Publishing Gets Creative

PUB CRAWLING: EMI Music Publishing was very busy last week, with the deal to become part of Sony/ATV approved by the European Commission, while the creative team, led by Jon Platt, hosted a three-day writers’ event at L.A.’s SLS Hotel for the pubco’s hottest writers, including Dallas Davidson, Toby Gad, Martin Johnson (Boys Like Girls), Rick Nowels, Dallas Austin, John Bettis, Rhett Akins, Brian Howes, Julie Frost, Angela Hunte and Cri$tyle. Among the A&R execs on hand were Atlantic’s Mike Caren, Interscope’s Larry Jackson, Sony/RCA’s Keith Naftaly and Epic’s Tricky Stewart. P. Diddy even showed to make the Bad Boy presentation, with an offer of free Ciroc vodka at 11 a.m. getting everyone in the right mood. After that, CEO Roger Faxon and company were off to the ASCAP Pop Music Awards, where they picked up Publisher of the Year honors along with Warner/Chappell, the 10th consecutive win for the group, and 18th in the 29-year history of the show. Platt and Diddy are seen below gargling with Ciroc. (4/23p)
