SiriusXM Adds Personalized Web Radio

SIRIUS XM GETS PERSONAL: Looks like SiriusXM is going after Pandora and Spotify with its own personalized Internet radio offering. CEO Mel Karmazin made the announcement during this week’s earnings call, saying the satellite radio company would launch its version of “personalized music online, allowing subscribers to tailor their favorite music channel to their tastes.” The web radio stations will be available to SiriusXM's Internet radio subscribers on a commercial-free basis. "Free and freemium competitors online will have a tough time matching the commercial-free aspect of SiriusXM-branded music combined with the unique sports and talk content we offer," added Karmazin. Clear Channel's own personalized radio service, iHeartRadio, is commercial-free, while Pandora, among others, offer to remove commercials for paid subscribers. (5/2p)
