WEAKEND BOX OFFICE: Put the emphasis on “weak” for Friday’s pair of high-profile debuts, as the Tom Cruise-starring musical Rock of Ages and the Adam Sandler comedy That’s My Boy both opened below expectations. Not only did they fail to unseat Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted, which easily held on to #1 in week two, they also lagged behind last weekend’s runner-up, Prometheus, which held onto #2. What’s more Sandler’s R-rated film was surpassed by Snow White and the Huntsman in its third week. Both of the debuting films got lambasted by the critics. Here’s the Top 5:

(1) Madagascar 3 (Paramount/DW) $35.5m (-41.1%); 4,263 screens/$8,327 avg.
(2) Prometheus (Fox): $20.2m (-60.4%); 3,442 screens/$5,869 avg.
(N) Rock of Ages (WB/New Line): $15.1m; 3,470 screens/$4,340 avg.
(3) Snow White and the Huntsman (Universal): $13.8m (-40.1%); 3,701 screens/$3,730 avg. 5 (N) That's My Boy (Sony) $13m; 3,030 screens/$4,290 avg.
