YOUR WEAKEND BOX OFFICE: Seth MacFarlane’s Ted outdueled Steven Soderbergh’s Magic Mike, $54.1m to $39.2m, as both films beat expectations. Two other films debuted in the Top 10: Tyler Perry's Madea's Witness Protection made $26.35m to take the fourth spot, while Disney’s critically slammed People Like Us just slipped in at #10 on $4.31m. As for the auteurs, Ridley Scott’s Prometheus (Fox) earned $4.93m in week four, dropping three slots to #7, just ahead of Wes Anderson’s growing (+43.1%) Moonrise Kingdom (Focus), which did $4.87m in 854 theaters. And Woody Allen’s To Rome With Love (Sony Classics) was up 107.5% to $750k in just 29 theaters, for an average of $25,862.

3. Brave (Disney): $34.01m (-48.7%) – 4,164 theaters/$8,168 avg.
4. Tyler Perry's Madea's Witness Protection (Lionsgate): $26.35m – 2,161 theaters/$12,193 avg.
5. Madagascar 3 (Paramount/DreamWorks) $11.82m (-40.1%) – 3,715 theaters/$3,180 avg.

Bubbling under (as they used to say), festival sensation Beasts of the Southern Wild (Fox Searchlight) opened in four theaters, averaging a whopping $42,250. (7/2a)
