WEAKEND BOX OFFICE: Lionsgate Films’ geriaction spectacular, The Expendables 2, topped the box office this past weekend, earning $29 million on 3,316 screens for a per-theatre average of $8,670, according to our good friends at www.boxofficemojo.com. That was enough to topple last week’s champ, Universal’s The Bourne Legacy, which racked up another $17m for a two-week total of $69 million and a per-theater average of $4,535, so who needs Matt Damon anyway? Focus’ 3D animated ParaNorman was third with $14m and a per-screen average of $4,085. WB’s spoof The Campaign was next, with $13m for a two-week total of $52 million, Rounding out the Top 5 was TriStar/Sony’s reboot of Sparkle, featuring the last performance of Whitney Houston, at $12m for a per-screen average of $5,348.
