Ocean, PSY move the needle post-VMAs

TO BE PERFECTLY FRANK… Of the performances at last night’s MTV Video Music Awards, it looks like Frank Ocean, PSY, Pink and Alicia Keys were among those who really moved the sales needle. Ocean’s Channel Orange is back in the Top 10 at iTunes, where it resides at #7 as of early Friday morning, while “Thinkin’ About You” is at #19 on the iTunes singles chart, one slot behind PSY’s “Gangnam Style.” Meanwhile, the clip that started it all for the K-pop sensation is both #1 and #3 (for the “Hyun A” version) on the iTunes video chart. Meanwhile, Pink's "Blow Me (One Last Kiss)" is now #6 on the singles chart, while Keys' "Girl on Fire" is #8. The evening's final number, Taylor Swift's "We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together," remains at #1. As for Ocean, the L.A. Times said of the MTV debut of the critical and commercial breakthrough artist: “The nimble singer, whose massive year was every bit as groundbreaking as it was inspirational, delivered a beautiful, albeit restrained, version of ‘Thinkin Bout You.’ The crowd cheered loudest when his name was called for best male (he lost to Chris Brown) but returned the love after his performance.” The Hollywood Reporter noted: “Many people, including members of the music community such as Ne-Yo (as he told THR on the red carpet before the show), were looking forward to seeing Frank Ocean perform. The singer's sparse version of ‘Thinkin Bout You’ was one of the night's standouts, attracting praise from the likes of Lady Gaga, who tweeted ‘watch frank ocean steal this whole show.’” (9/7a)
