COHEN QUESTIONS: WHY & WHERE TO? Speculation about Lyor Cohen’s sudden departure from WMG and where he might be headed next continues around the biz and in the press. “They weren’t seeing eye to eye on the strategy,” one source close to Cohen tells the N.Y. Post’s Claire Atkinson. “It was better to part ways; he didn’t see himself having a role going forward.” Atkinson writes that Cohen’s future may also involve tying in with a private-equity firm to make a play for some of the soon-to-be-divested assets from the UMG-EMI merger. And Lyor’s friend and former business associate Jay-Z told the reporter, “He is a safe harbor for all artists. You look at his track record, and he can do anything. He could run a big major or start his own thing.” (9/26a)
