HISTORY IN THE MAKING: Today is a historic day in the music business as UMG executives begin to work within the EMI structure inside the latter’s offices in London, New York and L.A. So far, things have been running smoothly, but the inevitable cuts in back room functions remain on co-workers’ radar. Big questions remain as to who will work for whom, but it’s business as usual for the Dan McCarroll and Greg Thompson teams as they continue to push the boulder up the mountain. Those departments will be further capitalized according to the manifesto that has been Lucian Grainge's rap since the process started back in November 2011. All of this will hopefully become clearer in the next few weeks as the announcement of a possible new EMI head is said to be close at hand. (10/1p)
