YOUR TRYPTOPHAN-MELLOWED WEAKEND BOX OFFICE: In a typically sluggish post-Thanksgiving weekend, Summit’s The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn Part 2 came out on top for the third straight week, edging Sony’s Skyfall, $17.4m to $17m. The Twilight finale averaged $4,344 in 4,008 theaters, while the latest James Bond flick did $4,909 on 3,463 screens. Lincoln and Rise of the Guardians, the next two films, were even more closely bunched, Spielberg’s epic biopic (Disney) finishing just $100k above the DreamWorks Animation release’s $13.5 million, but averaging a robust $6,694 in 2,018 theaters compared to Rise’s $3,606 and 3,602. Life of Pi was #5 with $12m ($4,098 average/2,928 theaters). Weinstein’s Brad Pitt-starring Killing Them Softly, the top debut, opened weakly, averaging a paltry $2,888 in 2,424 theaters. On the limited-release front, Weinstein’s Silver Linings Playbook remained in fewer than 400 theaters this weekend, but still managed to only dip 24% to $3.3m, with a whopping $9,005 average, good for #11. Through 17 days, the David O. Russell romcom has earned $11m. More on Box Office Mojo. (12/3a)
