Cam Strang WBR/Reprise

STRANG DAYS: It will shortly be announced that Cameron Strang is being tapped to head Warner Bros./Reprise (his purview will not include Atlantic, as had been rumored). Current Co-President/CEO-- and former Lyor Cohen lieutenant—Todd Moscowitz has announced his resignation. WBR Chairman Rob Cavallo will remain, as will Co-President/COO Liv Tortella. Strang has strongly impressed money man Len Blavatnik and CEO Stephen Cooper since assuming leadership of Warner/Chappell (which was consolidated with Rhino in September) in early 2011, signing breakout acts like fun. and Kendrick Lamar to the pubco and affecting an overall creative and financial turnaround. He also brought his own Southside Independent pubco to WMG, with a catalog boasting songs by Bruno Mars, B.o.B. and other hitters. Big Jon Platt, lately made President, Creative N.A. of W/C, will continue to report to Strang. It was under Moscowitz, who came to the company from Def Jam, that WBR began to make a footprint in the urban-music biz; with his departure, rumor has it that urban artists there (such as Meek Mill, Jill Scott and Waka Flocka Flame) may be moved to Atlantic. Since Strang won’t oversee all of WMG, whispers that he would be the “new Lyor” (presumably minus the mixed metaphors) proved inaccurate. Even so, this transition, which looks to be a well-planned move that began with Cohen’s ouster, will undoubtedly have further reverberations on the rest of Team Lyor at the Bunny. Are Craig Kallman and Julie Greenwald considering short-term extensions of their deals, so they can assess the situation and pivot as necessary? Stay tuned. (12/6p)
