Ian Rogers to head Daisy

GIVE US YOUR ANSWER, DO: Ian Rogers, known to much of the biz as the head of Topspin (and to digital-music geeks as a dude who's been doing cool stuff since the Winamp days, and who worked with the Beastie Boys and Yahoo Music, among others), has been selected to run Beats Electronics' new subscription service. For now, said offering has no official launch date and bears the curious moniker Daisy, but it's generating plenty of mystique (You might recall a recent item about Trent Reznor being hired as its Chief Creative Officer). The service--built in part with the components of MOG, which Beats purchased last year--is designed to offer much more "curation" (as Beats CEO Jimmy Iovine put it in a piece by AllThingsD's Peter Kafka) than its competitors. What does that mean? If tech guru Rogers' blogs and speeches are any indication, it'll be all about "trusted users" who furnish the kind of music each listener is most likely to dig. Rogers says he'll stay involved with Topspin; COO Jeremy Bellinghausen will step into that entity's top spot. Will Daisy's "curation" model and starry personnel be enough to get a lot of folks to pony up a monthly fee? We'll known soon enough. One thing's for sure: They'll be able to listen to it through some amazing headphones. (1/1op)
