Best New Artists 5: Fun

GRAMMY FEVER, BEST NEW ARTIST EDITION (PART FIVE): "We Are Young." "Some Nights." "Carry On." These uplifting pop anthems would've made New York trio fun. a household name if their name hadn't been one already. The Fueled by Ramen collective--fronted by singer-songwriter Nate Ruess and featuring multi-instrumentalists Andrew Dost and Jack Antonoff--combines an almost tribal energy and huge hooks, with Ruess' clarion vocals taking the whole cathartic sound over the top. Their nomination for Best New Artist is just one of six nods they've received, the others being Record of the Year, Song of the Year, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance (for "We Are Young"); Album of the Year; and Best Pop Vocal Album. Oh, and the bespectacled Antonoff is the current beau of Lena Dunham (creator-writer-director-star of HBO's Girls), so expect some zeitgeisty power-couple visuals on Grammy night. (1/31p)
