Hendrix Burnishes His Legacy

JIMI’S LEGACY: Jimi Hendrix just scored his highest chart ranking since 1968 with the #2 bow of People, Hell and Angels, a collection of previously unreleased material which is eing disributed by Sony’s Legacy label. It occurs 43 years after the guitarist’s death for what would have been his 70th birthday. The label has also had success with the soundtrack to the Oscar-winning Rodriguez documentary Searching for Sugar Man, Rock and Roll Hall of Fame inductees Heart's latest Fanatic and Willie Nelson’s Heroes, which scored his highest chart position in more than 20 years. Nelson's follow-up, Let's Face the Music and Dance, comes out April 16, when he turns 80 later that month. Considering the impressive showing of UMe’s Pitch Perfect soundtrack, it proves that there’s more to these divisions than just selling back catalog. (3/15p)
