Smokey Robinson Verve

VERVE GETS SMOKEY: Legendary artist and songwriter Smokey Robinson has signed with Verve Music Group and will unleash a duets album in Q4 featuring new renditions of material from his beloved catalog, it was announced today. The Motown legend was romanced to Verve by chairman David Foster and A&R exec Jay Landers, both of whom will work closely with Robinson on the project (his 29th album, in case you're keeping score at home). "I’m really excited about signing with Verve Music Group to release this upcoming album," said the hitmaker. "Not only do I have a musical history with the guys involved, but a longstanding friendship as well. I’m looking forward to bringing our talents to the table as we collaborate on this project." The Smokester recently dropped by American Idol, where various contestants kvelled about meeting him and host Ryan Seacrest teased the upcoming duets disc. (3/28p)
