ADD OUR SPY ON BROADWAY: It makes no difference what the reviews say; this is a really great musical—it’s gonna be huge. Those in the business will particularly enjoy Motown: The Musical a lot; they’ll probably find the story itself more interesting than the general public. But practically everybody over 50 will love the music. There were some things to quibble about: Gordy possibly rewrote a bit of history in terms of how much he had to do with writing the music, and some of the songs weren’t used properly in terms of the chronology. That said, the show felt very real. Ultimately, this show will be a huge win for Doug Morris, who was the sole investor in the show—he put up all the money when Gordy came to him with the idea.
