iTunes charts

iTUNES CHARTS: Yesterday, we told you that the battle between Fall Out Boy and Kid Cudi for #1 on next week’s chart is too close to call, and the iTunes chart this week directly reflects the overall picture, with the rapper presently in the lead over the rockers, though they could easily switch places several times between now and Tuesday. Two more of this week’s numerous debuts—Christian MC Andy Mineo and U.K. newcomer Olly Murs—are hanging around the leaderboard, and the former has slipped into our projections for next week’s Top 15 (see 4/18 item). Pre-orders have pushed Daft Punk to #4, while lead single “Get Lucky” featuring vocals from Pharrell Williams has rocketed to #3. It’ll be interesting to see how much pre-release momentum these EDM avatars can generate leading up to May 21. Also moving briskly in a positive direction are the latest from the duet-centric will.i.am, here paired with Miley Cyrus, and Selena Gomez. Watch these charts over the weekend for movement—who knows, it could become your new hobby. But don’t do it stoned or you’ll forget what you were doing—an occupational hazard at UMPG. (4/19a)
