NARM Holdouts

TO NARM OR NOT TO NARM: Lots of chatter concerning the reasons for Target’s decision not to attend this year’s NARM convention, now called Music Biz 2013, being held next week in L.A. Is it because they believe that the conference is now leaning too much toward the digital side (something NARM Prexy Jim Donio firmly disagrees with)? Few believe the idea being floated by Target that they just spent their travel budget on SxSW. Others are now thinking that it’s a reaction to Amazon, which will be in attendance, and their low-ball pricing tactics. Target may believe that Amazon is seeking to sour relations between the big box retailer and suppliers because of the myriad of exclusive packages that have been given to them. Will Target have a last-minute change of heart and attend, as Anderson Merchandisers did? Stay tuned. (5/3p)
