TONY OPTS FOR FETISH WEAR: Kinky Boots scored a field-leading six trophies at Sunday night's Tony Awards, including Best Musical, Best Score (by Cyndi Lauper) and Lead Actor in a Musical (Billy Porter). Lauper was the first woman to win a Tony for composition of a score on her own. "I gotta thank my mom for sharing all that wonderful music," she said in her acceptance speech. "I wrecked all her Broadway musicals when I was a kid, the cast albums. That's how I learned how to sing." Porter, meanwhile, thanked his "patron," friend and investor Suzi Dietz (herself a four-time Tony-nominated producer, who also happens to be married to our Editor In Chief, Lenny Beer), and told co-star Stark Sands, "I share this award with you. I'm going to keep it at my house, but I share it with you.” In other Tony news, rival musical Matilda took home four awards including Best Book; Pippin won for Best Revival of a Musical, Christopher Durang's Vanya and Sonia and Masha and Spike earned Best Play; and Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf took home Best Revival of a Play. For a complete list of winners, go here. The CBS telecast was also a winner against last year with a 20% bump, and in fact scored its largest viewership since 2009 with 7.24 million. Meanwhile, the Sony Masterworks soundtrack album for Kinky zoomed up 22 places overnight to #23 on the iTunes album chart, while Pippin (on Ghostlight Records) had jumped to #24 as of this writing.
