Stones Mastered for iTunes

THROUGH THE PAST DIGITALLY: The entire Rolling Stones' catalog now bears the Mastered for iTunes descriptive, meaning the elfin geeks in Cupertino have gotten all the ya-ya’s out of the virtual grooves, or something to that effect. Every LP, EP and one-off single, the early stuff presented in the original U.K. versions, went up on Tuesday and got the big splash yesterday. Also available are several newly compiled, “specially curated, career-spanning collections” (as Apple puts it). For example, The Rolling Stones 1963-1971, which appears to compile all the masters currently owned by ABKCO, 181 tracks in all, can be yours for $129.99. You can also pick up individual tracks for $1.29 a pop. They’re sold at Apple’s standard 256 kbps AAC, which is said to have better sound quality than a 320 kbps MP3. Decent band; you should check ’em out. (6/20p)
