Mariah to sing at All Star Game-related Sandy benefit concert

THERE’S NO MELISMA IN BASEBALL: Mariah Carey will perform with the New York Philharmonic at the 2013 MLB All-Star Charity Concert Benefiting Sandy Relief on July 13, three days before the All Star Game at Citi Field, home of the cellar-dwelling Mets. The concert, which will be free to fans but requires each attendee to have a ticket, will take place on the Great Lawn at Central Park beginning at 7:30PM. The Philharmonic, led by Music Director Alan Gilbert, will perform two sets of New York and baseball-themed music, including Randy Newman’s Suite from The Natural and the world premiere of Mark Isham’s Suite from 42. Mariah will preview tracks from her upcoming album as well as her standard crowd-pleasers in the orchestral setting. On top of all that, Joe Torre will read “Casey at the Bat.” Mariah and Mudville—what could be better than that? (6/24a)
