UP IN SMOKEY: New Island/IDJ signing Smokey Jones, who gets two emphatic snaps up from B-Side editor Jesse Beer, is showcasing the material from her upcoming debut album for (check out the Soundcloud sampler below) July 9 in the backroom of Bootsy Bellows on the Sunset Strip. Smokey (real name: Sara Mancuso) was spotted and signed by IDJ SVP A&R Chris Anokute, who describes her as “Janis Joplin of the new generation.” (6/28a)
