WE WILL BUILD YOU UP: We know that a ton of Americans went to the movies on this most outdoors-y of summer holiday weekends (see below), but did they also take the time to legally acquire new music? If so, was that enough to move the needle for J. Cole (Roc Nation/Columbia), whose three-week-old LP we projected as this week’s chart-topper with 58-61k, besting last week’s #1, Wale (Atlantic), with an estimated 49-52k? Will Kanye West (Roc-a-Fella/Def Jam/IDJ) hit the neighborhood of 37-40k in his first week? And will this week’s likely top debut Joe (Massenburg Media) hit his mark at 25-28k? OK, so it’s not nearly as fascinating as what’s going on with Magna Carta Holy Grail, but it’s still mildly diverting (especially for the acts, labels and managers in question), and you can follow along on our Building Album Sales Chart until it closes tomorrow afternoon.
