Magna Carta sales and radio

CARTA COUNTRY: Jay-Z’s Magna Carta Holy Grail remains at #1 on the iTunes Album Chart, with preorders said to be substantial enough to give it spots 2-10 as well. After the Samsung giveaway and the rushing of hastily pressed product to retail, much speculation has centered, understandably, on first-week sales. And that number will be big. But with lead single “Holy Grail,” featuring a soulful Justin Timberlake hook, debuting in the 30s at Pop, Rhythm and Urban, with just three days of spins, radio looks to play a sizable role. The track, despite its 5:38 running time, sounds like a monster to us. Needless to say, the Roc Nation album instantly joined the ranks of Grammy contenders, too. (7/8p)
