TEA

ANYONE FOR TEA: It sometimes takes a collective effort to grab the brass ring in the weekly TEA round robin, and this week was no exception, as IGA employed a gang-tackle approach to edge new-release marketshare champ Columbia. Team Stringer had the chart-topping album thanks to The Civil Wars, but the Iovine-Janick-Berman coaching staff came with the heat: two-way players Robin Thicke and Imagine Dragons plus Top 10 single entry Lana Del Rey (see next item). Capitol Music Group snagged #3 with Now 47, Five Finger Death Punch and a hit single from Capital Cities. As for the big picture, Lucian Grainge’s mighty UMG had half of the Top 10 labels in the TEA competition, six in new-release marketshare and eight of the 10 top-selling albums and the same number of Top 10 singles. But that level of dominance isn’t enough for greedy Universal, which expects country superstar Luke Bryan to mow down all comers on the way to being voted the new sheriff in town. (8/15a)
