iTUNES CHARTS: The heat is coming off the singles chart on this sultry late-summer Friday morning, as Robin Thicke finds himself sandwiched between the debuting diva duo of Katy Perry and Lady Gaga, with Luke Bryan galloping along on the outside. The new “That’s My Kind of Night” is one of two entries from the country star’s chart-topping LP, which is selling like Waffle House hotcakes. A couple of youngsters are in the mix as well: the extremely wealthy 23-year-old Avicii (see next item) and 16-year-old Kiwi wunderkind Lorde. Below Bryan on the album chart is R&B singer K. Michelle in a foreshadowing of next Tuesday’s final chart, but what’s more surprising is The Civil Wars’ continuing strength in week two. Pre-orders put Gaga, John Mayer and Panic! at the Disco on the big board, while “Royals” has propelled Lorde’s five-song EP into the thick of this wide-ranging gathering of genres. (8/16a)
