YOUR FOUR-DAY WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: The kids in 1D are now movie stars. Morgan Spurlock’s debuting doc on the boy band covered its $10m production costs and then some, earning $15.8m to win the Friday-Sunday competition and $18m over the four-day period to wind up #2 behind The Butler, which appears to be gaining momentum after three weeks in theaters. Holdovers We’re the Millers and Planes were also up significantly. But the big surprise was the Spanish-language comedy Instructions Not Included, which grossed a shocking $10m in limited release over the four-day holiday.

1. Lee Daniels' The Butler (Weinstein) – $20m (+21%), 3,330/$6,009 average (week 3)
2. One Direction: This Is Us (TriStar) – $18m, 2,735/$6,581 average (debut)
3. We're the Millers (WB) – $15.9m (+22%), 3,445/$4,624 average (week 4)
4 Planes (Disney) – $10.7m (+24%), 3,259/$3,273 average (week 4)
5 Instructions Not Included (Lionsgate) – $10m, 347/$28,818 average (debut)

Also heading in a positive direction was the sci-fi thriller Elysium, which earned $8.3m (+20%) in its fourth week. And Woody Allen’s Blue Jasmine entered the Top 10 in its sixth week of release with $5.3m, a robust +34% gain. (9/3a)
