Super D buys Alliance
ALLIED POWERS UPDATE: It's official: Super D has snagged Alliance Entertainment in a consolidation of major wholesalers. Industry observers think the private-equity deal could be worth more than $130 million. The combined company becomes the #2 wholesaler behind Anderson, and the #4 music seller behind iTunes, Anderson and Amazon. Super D President/CEO Bruce Ogilvie, who sold his one-stop unit Abbey Road to Alliance in 1993 for a then-whopping $36 million, now gains control of the company that bought him out. That means he gets AEC's hugely profitable fulfillment business for Amazon, Barnes & Noble, Best Buy and Target. It appears that AEC chief Mike Davis will exit his post as a result of the acquisition. (9/5p)
