Lorde hits #1

LORDE HAS RISEN: Lava/Republic's Lorde has hit #1 on the iTunes singles chart with her multi-format smash "Royals," displacing Miley Cyrus' "Wrecking Ball" without benefit of a sledgehammer or other hardware. The Kiwi teen's EP, The Love Club, remains in the Top 10 on the album side; Pure Heroine, her full-length debut, is due to street on 9/30. Our own Ted Volk notes in his iGen column that Lorde's reign at PoMo radio is the longest for any female solo artist ever, and shatters the record held since 1995 (before Lorde was born) by Alanis Morissette. Kudos to Monte Lipman, Jason Flom and the entire Republic team. (9/19p)
