SEE MUSIC, HEAR ART: Serj Tankian has added another credit—multimedia artist—to his CV. Through 11/21 at the PROJECT Gallery in Hollywood, the System of a Down co-founder/frontman/songwriter/solo artist/label head/activist is exhibiting his paintings and accompanying musical pieces in an unprecedented way: visitors are required to download the Eye for Sound app for the iPhone and Android, point it at the respective pieces in the “Disarming Time” exhibition and listen along to music Tankian has composed. “The experience of art and music has been done before originally by Kandinsky with Schoenberg’s compositions,” Serj recently explained. “He called it ‘Synesthesia.’ We’re taking it to the next level in a way with technology and having one artist do it all through the music as well as the paintings.” This 90-second video will give you an idea what this irrepressible artist has dreamed up.
