WHO NOSE?: Following an abrupt but not unexpected sacking as CEO of AEG Live, Randy Phillips is now insisting to anyone who will listen that he wasn’t fired for cause, that he gave the music industry a “gift” by doing his job, and referring to himself as a “king.” In what are seen by most as desperate ramblings from an industry figure whose main claims to fame are bending the truth and grandstanding, these statements are being taken with somewhat less than a grain of salt. The real questions on everyone's lips—and as yet unanswered—are: Why did AEG fire him, and what really happened? Why would you fire your CEO when you just posted your best year on record?
