Beats 2

THE BEATS GOES ON: A new TIME piece goes inside the Beats Music office and features much testimony from chief Jimmy Iovine on the “curation” concept, which he says “isn’t really tech companies’ game. All these services are built completely off algorithms. The songs they give you one after the other really have nothing to do with each other in the emotional sense.” The piece, which also spotlights creative director Trent Reznor and notes execs Luke Wood and Ian Rogers, speculates that Beats Music will need to scare up 5 million subscriptions to be in the black.
