Clive's party

THE LEGEND, THE KING, “ROYALS” & THE HOI POLLOI: Saturday was especially busy for UMG chieftain Lucian Grainge, who, after hosting an afternoon showcase of his acts at Lure (see below), changed his clothes, took a deep breath and headed to the Beverly Hilton to receive the Salute to Industry Icons Award at Clive Davis’ pre-Grammy party. Grainge in essence roasted himself in a video tribute featuring the likes of Katy Perry, Taylor Swift, U2, Sting, Jon Bon Jovi, Rod Stewart and Ozzy Osbourne all declining to appear in the video tribute. Along with a horde of the usual suspects whose boldfaced names make up the bulk of the verbiage in the next several items, the hot-ticket gala drew such dignitaries as Apple’s Tim Cook and Eddie Cue, Jane Fonda, Joni Mitchell, Elliot Roberts, Smokey Robinson, Russell Simmons, Quincy Jones, Berry Gordy, Neil Diamond, Kris Kristofferson, Gladys Knight, Herbie Hancock, Sammy Hagar, Krist Novoselic, Lars Ulrich, Rihanna, John Legend, Jamie Foxx and all of the stars seen in the video footage. Entertainment was provided by Imagine Dragons, Lionel Richie, the ubiquitous Macklemore & Ryan Lewis, A Great Big World, Alicia Keys and R. Kelly in a Nelson Mandela tribute, John Fogerty with Foo Fighters, Miley Cyrus, Pharrell Williams, Robin Thicke and Lorde—the last two reprising their performances at Grainge’s soiree. Befitting tradition, a good-chunk of the four-and-a-half-hour spectacle was taken up by Clive’s speechifying, including a video-accompanied paean to Whitney Houston. (1/26a)
