Oscars ratings, iTunes chart update

FUN WITH NUMBERS: Sunday night’s Academy Awards telecast on ABC attracted a massive audience of 43.7 million, making it the most-watched Oscars since 2000, and the most-watched entertainment (or non-Super Bowl) telecast since the May 2004 finale of Friends, TheWrap reports. That 43.7m represents an 8% increase over last year, when the show pulled in 40.4 million viewers. In terms of adults 18-49, the Oscars scored a 13.1 rating/33 share, up a percentage point from 2013. All those eyeballs appear to have enhanced the sales of Pharrell’s “Happy” and G I R L, which continue to top the iTunes charts, as well as the #7 Frozen soundtrack, Idina Menzel’s “Let It Go” (now #2) and U2’s “Ordinary Love” (#9). And while we’re in the store, it’s worth noting that Coldplay’s new single “Magic” is now #5, as is the pre-order for the band’s Ghost Stories. Meanwhile the two versions of Rick RossMastermind occupy the 2-3 slots and American Authors’ Oh, What a Life is #9, giving IDJ three Top 10 entries. (3/4a)
