MAUI POWWOWIE: The pineapple express is getting a workout this week, with top label execs flying into Maui to meet with Chad Kroeger, catch some rays and check out whale soup along the south Maui coastline. Look for the Nickelback free-agency record deal to get closed sooner than later, as the Roadrunner deal has ended and the Atlantic group of labels anymore has lost its luster—especially for big acts—since the halcyon days of Ahmet Ertegun and Jerry Wexler. Nickelback is managed by Bryan Coleman; John Branca and David Lande are the band's legal reps. (3/4a)
