Black Keys tour

YEAR IN REVIEW: The Black Keys have just announced a fall arena tour of North America behind Turn Blue (Nonesuch/Warner Bros.), which hits next Tuesday (5/13). The run, presented by Live Nation, starts in Columbus on 9/5 and finishes up in Kansas City on 12/21. There’s no L.A. date on the initial itinerary, but it’ll probably be dropped in between Seattle’s Key Arena on 11/1 and San Diego’s Viejas Arena on 11/9. Could it wind up at the Forum? The Keys play Brooklyn’s Barclays Center on 9/24. Opening on various legs of the tour will be Cage the Elephant, Jake Bugg (on the West Coast dates) and St. Vincent. Check out the wacky-cuckoo tour announcement clip above, and the comparably out-there new video for “Fever.” Rolling Stone’s David Fricke just gave Turn Blue a 4.5/5-star review, hailing it as “the best, most consistently gripping album the Keys have ever made.” And in his Album of the Month review and Q&A with Dan Auerbach in the June issue of Uncut, our own Bud Scoppa writes that, “if El Camino was the Keys’ catchiest album, Turn Blue turns out to be their sneakiest, subtlest and most seductive.” But don’t take their word for it; you can stream the album on iTunes leading up to release.
