MusiCares MAP Fund Benefit Concert

THEY CARE: Last night marked 10th annual MusicCares MAP Fund Benefit Concert, hosted by Dax Shepard. In his brief on-stage remarks, MusiCares President/CEO Neil Portnow declared, "We're proud that we've grown our programs in response to the needs of the music community." Ozzy Osbourne received the Stevie Ray Vaughn Award, presented by Joe Walsh, for his ongoing support of the MusiCares MAP Fund, while Village Studios CEO/owner Jeff Greenberg was honored with MusiCares’ From the Heart Award for his devotion to the mission and goals of the association. Upon accepting, Greenberg said, “music is the center core of all of our lives. This is where we take care of the people who make the music.” The event, which took place at Club Nokia, included performances from Osbourne with his touring band and Dave Navarro on guitar, Billy Morrison, Chad Smith and Beth Hart (who did a compelling cover of Black Sabbath’s “Changes” together), Keb’ Mo’ and Metallica (who covered Rare Earth’s “I Just Want to Celebrate,” Deep Purple’s “When a Blind Man Cries” and The Beatles’ “In My Life” and Osbourne’s “Diary of a Madman”). The MAP Fund provides financial aid and support for members of the music community struggling with addiction; all proceeds from the concert benefit the organization. (5/13a)
