Amazon streaming service--report

IN THEIR PRIME: Looks like Amazon is about to jump into the stream. Buzzfeed reports that the online-retail behemoth will expand its Prime membership offerings by adding a stockpile of old and newish music for subscribers to stream on demand. The Prime music service, which is scheduled to launch this June or July, will be limited to songs and albums that are six months old and older, according to five music-biz sources. Similar to Prime Instant Video, the Prime music service (name TBD) will offer a potluck of select songs and albums it’s licensed from labels at a discount. If the whole thing seems modest in scale, consider that Amazon has 20 million-plus reported Prime members, so there may be some money to be made for the labels. (5/30a)
