YOUR WEEKEND BOX OFFICE: Angelina Jolie was the weekend's undisputed queen, as Disney's Maleficent scored a $70m bow. What's being touted as the star's final acting turn (a sympathetic twist on Sleeping Beauty's villainess) rode superb advance marketing and strong word of mouth to the top of the heap, and earned almost 10% of its take on IMAX screens. The week's only other significant debut, Seth McFarlane's A Million Ways to Die in the West, however, earned a less-than-blazing $17m in its initial frame and was saddled with third place.

  1. Maleficent Disney $70m 3,948/$17,730k avg. (debut)
  2. X-Men: Days of Future Past Fox $32.6m (-64%) 4,001/$8,148 avg. (week 2)
  3. A Million Ways to Die ... Universal $17m 3,158/$5,405 avg. (debut)
  4. Godzilla Warner Bros. $12.2m (-61%) 3,501/$3,492 avg. (week 3)
  5. Blended Warner Bros. $8.4m (-41%) 3,555/$2,370 avg. (week 2)

X-Men plunged significantly in its second week, which is consistent with the mutant franchise's history. Meanwhile, the frat-vs.-family comedy Neighbors (#6) has racked up $128m in just four weeks; that's more than 10 times what it cost to make. (6/2a)
