Eddy Cue City of Hope

CUE FACTOR: Apple's SVP Internet Software and Services Eddy Cue will receive the "Spirit of Life" award from the City of Hope at its 10/23 L.A. gala, it was announced today. Cue, who's been the face of iTunes and to whom Jimmy Iovine and Dr. Dre's Beats Music team will ostensibly report after Apple's $3 billion acquisition is completed in September, joins the storied company of prior recipients like Doug Morris, Irving Azoff, Neil Portnow, Quincy Jones and last year's honoree, Rob Light. Cue declared himself "honored," adding that COH's work to fight dread diseases "personally means a lot to me." The organization's Music, Film and Entertainment Industry Group head, Jason Morey, noted that "City of Hope and Apple are both renowned for their passionate embrace of innovation and change. Eddy embodies that same passion ... He is an extraordinarily worthy honoree." Cue is already said to be preparing his remarks, which include a detailed history of compression algorithms. (6/4p)
