Shazam, It's Magic!
SHAZAM, IT’S MAGIC!: As we informed you earlier this week, the top two acts on the Shazam USA Top 100 Tags Chart this week are newcomers, Latium/RCA’s Magic! and Warner Bros.’ Nico & Vinz. The weekly ascent of Magic!’s breezy reggae-pop smash “Rude” on Shazam’s chart since its debut on 4/15 is a marvel to behold, as it moved #80-45-17-10-6-3-3-1-1. Nico & Vinz, whose infectious "Am I Wrong" sat at #66 on 4/8, made their big move two months ago and have held onto the #2 spot for four weeks; they’ve also been #1 on the global chart for two weeks, having knocked John Legend from that perch. “I don’t know about you,” says Head of Music Peter Szabo, “but that song is as close to ‘coming out of nowhere’ as anything I’ve encountered in a while.” Szabo notes that the meteoric rise of this fresh blood has been the talk of the Shazam office. “Don’t get me wrong—I love John Legend, Katy Perry and the other superstars,” he adds. “But it’s great to see new talent breaking like this.” (6/12p)
